2015 Photo Book

Here is a slide show of pages for my version of project life. I've had it printed by Shutterfly. Can't wait 'til it arrives!

This represents my immersion into digital memory keeping and digi art. Some of the pages are more "traditional scrapbook" in nature, while others are more artsy. I've thoroughly enjoyed this journey, learn new things daily, which will keep me interested for a long time to come.

If you've been following along here, you know that I've become totally immersed into playing in photoshop. I decided to make my own "scrapbook papers" and use them for a new journal. Here are some examples, with a collage at the bottom.

Digital Art Collage

Happy Place: Digital collage

This collage is created from my background papers - painted pages that I've scanned to use for mixed media or digi art. The sky is a personal photo, digitally altered. The green paper on the bottom is purchased; all other elements are mine. My training in Photoshop Elements has paid off ... layers and filters and selection and brushes and effects ... I played with it all. I loved creating it and love how it turned out. The size is 12x12. I may get it printed on canvas ... and I definitely see more of these in the future.

Loving the digital art world. However I'm also playing with paints and collage ...

Following the videos from Terri Kahrs "I Have a Secret" journal, I created this using a manila envelope for the cover. I used a variety of medium on the pages (cardstock) - water soluble crayons, watercolor pencils, acrylic paint, gelato crayons. The page featured includes an images from the class as well as one of my painted birds. The right side is a plain envelope covered with a printout of my digitally enhanced background sheet. On the flip side is a place to put a note (secret) inside the envelope. This page is ready for journaling.

And finally, I made a scrappy journal for my granddaughter for her 11th birthday. Still love making these!

A switch to digital collage?

The first challenge for the Documented Life Project (DLP) is to use book paper as a first layer. The journal prompt is "Be Your Own Goal Keeper". I'm using the dylusions creative journal 5x8 size for these prompts. For the physical page, I glued a variety of book papers, followed by a layer of gesso. Then some paint and stenciling. I decided to use a snippet from a photograph as a pocket to hold a tag for my journaling. A painted birdie awaits "soaring" with my goals.

Having decided to do both digital and physical and see which I like better, I started my digital version while waiting for "paint to dry". Within an hour I had produced a page that I love. It has several layers: book pages (which I'd scanned in), papers that look like a layer of gesso, paint splotches, embellishments that I've created from my own art background pages (circles, borders), the photo snippet and the birdie. I love how easy the text is to create.

This would have taken me a long time to complete on the physical page. So, I stopped working on that and have the two side by side in my journal. I'll continue this personal challenge for a while and see where it leads me.

As I wrap up 2014 and enjoying these peaceful quiet days, I spend my time learning and playing with digital collage and scrapbooking. I see a lot of this in 2015!

She Dared to Dream: Digital collage

For this one, I created a digital scrapbook template with a commercial background and added papers of my own art.

The Earth Laughs: Digital Collage

This one was created with a PSE background and papers and shapes from my own art papers. The photo of Raphael's La Fornarina, source unknown. One of the layers is a letter my father wrote to my mother while they were dating. She was away for the summer and he wrote of how he missed her and couldn't wait to see her again. Hence the title of the piece.

This final piece is sized to print and add to my 2015 visual journal. I set the intention for the year. Papers are from my art papers. The butterfly is from a collage sheet, source unknown. (If I'm to do this, I really need to save the source of these so I can give credit!)
