working in black and white

I've always loved black and white with a touch of red. It's visually pleasing to me for some reason. I loved creating the journal below (post yesterday).

Here is a piece I did recently. The paper is Strathmore Artagain drawing paper coal black. Penwork is mostly uni-ball signo, which is my favorite white pen. There is a little Sharpie white pen, but I don't like the effect on this paper. The size is approximately 6x6. It was a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

I may take all of my black and white doodles and create an art book using Shutterfly. Perhaps add some quotes.  Hmmm.

from doodle to art quilt

A creative doodle from a few years ago

Happy Trees
7 x 5
Cropped, printed on canvas backed with canvas and made into an art quilt. I've mounted it on a canvas so it can easily be hung. This is to be gifted to a dear friend for her birthday tomorrow. Really enjoyed all the stitching and beading. I think I'll do more of this.

In a Slump

I've been in a slump lately. Unable to do much of anything. I suppose it's after all the years of work and deadlines. Now my days just flow. Days can go by so quickly. And nothing gets "done."

"In A Slump" - crayons and pen. Love how the crayons blended.

"Flexing My Art Muscles On a Sunday Afternoon"

Sometimes you just have to put color to paper to help get out of the slump. I'm hoping this week I'll be motivated to do some art.

Meditating on Color

After two days of grading papers, I treated myself to art time. These were very meditative and soothing.

I started this earlier this week and finished it today.

I guess I have a thing for circles.

I definitely have a thing for the heart shape! This actually reverse color to the original.

Creative Doodles

Doodling is the January theme at the Sketchbook challenge. This coincides with the *free* class offered by Traci Bautista through Strathmore Artist Papers - Doodles Unleashed. I love "doodle arting." Last year when I packed my supplies away to prepare for the move, the only supplies handy were markers and oil pastels. I worked in a doodle art book for months. I doodled everywhere I went, including a day spent with DH in the hospital emergency room. All the months that the Muse was boxed away ... doodle art was my major creative expression.

And here are ones from Week 1 of the class. I've added a link to the right to my creative doodles.
