Playing around in Photoshop

I had an urge to play in the world of digital artistry ... and here are the results. First I drew a free-form "flower", then posed a recent photo on top. The artistry proceeded from there ...

For this one, I used a freebie from Jane Davies that I used previously as seen here. Today's results produced two very different pieces. Do you have a preference - dark and moody or bright and colorful?

Digi Art

Jane Davis, whose art I so love and admire, sent a freebie piece of her art that we could print and frame. I have taken the liberty of using it as inspiration for a piece of digi art. Here is my first attempt.

"looking through the glass"
This piece has the following elements. The background is an original photo of a wall in a restaurant. The center is Jane Davies art. The photo of bottles was found somewhere on pinterest (sorry I don't know the origin) that I digitally manipulated. I collaged a piece from Jane's art in a couple of other places. Added digital paint splotches and scribbles.  Fun. Fun. Fun.

Some digi collage

Here are a few digi collage pieces I made from the painted papers. There are countless possibilities! Less messy than using glues, however, not tactile.

Circles, digital collage

Chaos Within, digital collage

Meandering, digital collage
All inspired by Jane Davies.

And here is the other sides ...

Next up ... these will be put into a visual art book.

Inspiration

Yesterday, I tried to channel two artists that I admire, Jane Davies and Odile Nicolette. I believe it's OK to copy; it's a way to learn. As long as it becomes mine.

This has many layers: tissue, paint, gesso, scratchings, more paint, more scratchings, collage. Heavily textured. Love it. Here's a link to the inspiration piece. Thank you, Jane, for being such an inspiration to me.

This also has many layers: collage and tissue, paint, gesso, scratchings, more paint, more scratchings, collage, more paint. I love the "crinkled" papers that add texture to the piece.

Vessel
Playing with pattern.
Ticket Home
This didn't start out as a double page spread but it seems to have turned into one.

Every once in a while I review Jane Davies book Collage Journeys. This piece is directly inspired by one of the exercises. The background is watercolor paint and bleeding from the previous page's markers. I used gesso and acrylic glazing liquid to tone it down. The vessel is acrylic paint on collage with a cover of glaze. Outlined  with charcoal pencil. Oil pastels added to background. It's very textured.

Staying on track with my collage-a-day challenge.

What I've Been Up To

I finished the Composition class with Jane Davies and am now taking another class with her. It's called Text and Image: Telling Stories with Collage. Here is some of the pieces for Lesson 1.
