These pieces were created from Susan Sorrell’s Personal Symbols class. They are tags that can be used as bookmarks, gifts for my book group. The background is timtex painted with watered down acrylic paints, with some free form machine stitching added. The shapes are paper and fabric attached with Sobo glue. I covered the paper ones with soft gel medium before the stitching and beading. A back fabric was added and the edging is either hand stitched or machine stitched. Fibers were added to the tag holes.
Three of the shapes that appear in lots of my work are the spiral, the house shape, and the heart. I was unable to do a spiral on the sewing machine and am thrilled to be able to add it to my work through hand stitching.
These were a lot of fun to do. They make nice gifts for special friends. I have four more to do, which is beginning to feel like a chore … how do artists do mass production? I get too bored and anxious to move on to the next project.
I’m almost finished with my three fabric memory books … I need to figure out how to photograph them so they will show nicely on the computer. I’m still not comfortable with the settings on my digital camera. (Perhaps that’s a class in the future?)

Jan,
Your book tags are awesome. I know what you mean about doing a group of pieces start seeming like a chore. I always work on several projects, so when I am doing several of the same it breaks it up. :)
Keep stitching!!

Love these Jan..especially the stitching. I was in the class too, but didn't get nearly as far as you!
