It is fun to see the pages as they progress. This is pages 7 and 8. The prompt was to use lots of fabrics woven, add stitches and items of interest to the grids created by the weaving.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G_nVrzW49Ic/YW2N9WeuOkI/AAAAAAAAxO8/rlYHHcsmt4cVYziA7hVEH6ytONKwS3avwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/pgs7%25268.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G_nVrzW49Ic/YW2N9WeuOkI/AAAAAAAAxO8/rlYHHcsmt4cVYziA7hVEH6ytONKwS3avwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h480/pgs7%25268.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>I added beads a friend had brought back from Africa that I had hoarded. I love that they have a place now in this book. This was a fun page to create.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CyHuIAXaTM4/YW2OcEEI1-I/AAAAAAAAxPE/Z6p1SNZDYXUdljBxVzR-QyNzNEj0KVYjQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/pgs%2B9%252610.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1216" data-original-width="2048" height="380" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CyHuIAXaTM4/YW2OcEEI1-I/AAAAAAAAxPE/Z6p1SNZDYXUdljBxVzR-QyNzNEj0KVYjQCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h380/pgs%2B9%252610.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p>Sew4thesoulbook, pages 9 and 10. This spread was to be a "break" from all the fabric and stitching of the previous pages. We were to use only two fabrics and create lots of stitching along the smaller fabric. We were also to create a hole that will eventually peek into the next spread. I chose a favorite color combination; stitching in the same color family with a few pops of red. I really enjoyed this spread because I'm not new to embroidery stitches but have not done them in quite some time. It was fun following YT videos to relearn them. My embroidery is far from perfect, but it was fun.</p>Jan's Art and Musingshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16944210655467222522noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31590570.post-34476088309335727272021-10-09T12:55:00.002-07:002021-10-09T12:55:21.556-07:00Sew4thesoulbook #3<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6_LvDnHaOjQ/YWHzPTUR9mI/AAAAAAAAxHs/QvKrQiyHCS8CSlNmXjW-MWsErgUOCcn7wCPcBGAsYHg/s3858/IMG_20211009_115558867_HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2819" data-original-width="3858" height="467" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6_LvDnHaOjQ/YWHzPTUR9mI/AAAAAAAAxHs/QvKrQiyHCS8CSlNmXjW-MWsErgUOCcn7wCPcBGAsYHg/w640-h467/IMG_20211009_115558867_HDR.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>I'm on a teaching break, so lots of time to dedicate to this project. Spread 3, pages 5 & 6, had the prompt of using a color which we don't normally work with, and use Suffolk puffs or "Yo-yo's" as they are referred to here in the US. I would have chosen brown as my color but I had no brown fabric 🤣. So I chose pink and purple. These colors aren't distasteful to me, but I use more gem tones and very little pink. I added a splash of teal, one of my favorite colors, and a splash of yellow that flows from spread to spread. Rather than spend time making yo-yo's (my first attempt was unsuccessful), I ordered a batch from <span style="color: #202124; font-family: Roboto, RobotoDraft, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; letter-spacing: 0.2px;"><a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/NonnasAtticShop?ref=nla_listing_details">NonnasAtticShop</a> </span> on Etsy. They worked well with this project, adding color and texture to the pages. I've added pink and purple buttons and clusters of pink beads. The other items I don't normally use are the lace and the snippet of doily. I like the effect of the lace. Less enthused about the doily which seems to dominate the page. But this fabric book project is an experiment, and this spread provided an opportunity to do things I've not done before.</p><div><br /></div>Jan's Art and Musingshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16944210655467222522noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31590570.post-39701734983786453502021-10-04T09:38:00.003-07:002021-10-04T09:38:40.467-07:00Sew4theSoulBook#1<p>I'm back to working with fabric after a 4 or 5 years, when digital artistry and knitting became my creative outlets. I have a LOT of fabric and threads and beads and buttons ... it's time to use them.</p><p>My first project was a new needle book. Fabric collage and hand stitching.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jX2VNfQqixk/YVsqfVCeulI/AAAAAAAAxCo/vJev6lcj7b8wAHdrZwINHnQ1TltnYq97QCPcBGAsYHg/s4160/IMG_20211004_090835549.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1788" data-original-width="4160" height="276" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jX2VNfQqixk/YVsqfVCeulI/AAAAAAAAxCo/vJev6lcj7b8wAHdrZwINHnQ1TltnYq97QCPcBGAsYHg/w640-h276/IMG_20211004_090835549.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p>I've had this circle quilt in blocks on my design board for several years. I don't even remember when I worked on it last. I've now finished the hand stitching and beading, and joined the blocks. Need to attach a back fabric, quilt, and create a border.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kgs614Qh7Ek/YVsqub8ooUI/AAAAAAAAxCs/zHfDA5e_zb4KS7UtHcEyewJ7m5XTxxc7wCPcBGAsYHg/s3332/IMG_20211004_090851916.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3332" data-original-width="3120" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kgs614Qh7Ek/YVsqub8ooUI/AAAAAAAAxCs/zHfDA5e_zb4KS7UtHcEyewJ7m5XTxxc7wCPcBGAsYHg/w600-h640/IMG_20211004_090851916.jpg" width="600" /></a></div><br /><p>I've also started a new project: #sew4thesoulbook. Originated by textile artist <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR_JE2MCqsuF_MbxP5vuI3g">Anne Brook,</a> it is a fabric book with cotton batting as the base of the pages. There are prompts for each spread. The first two pages are "<span style="background-color: #f9f9f9; color: #030303; font-family: Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; letter-spacing: 0.2px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Straight lines and a circle"</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Cvv0uKP_Atg/YVsscua1A0I/AAAAAAAAxDA/XOiY8nEpcgMferQQ64Do8BCbtGB5IKviQCPcBGAsYHg/s4160/IMG_20211004_085415890.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2694" data-original-width="4160" height="414" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Cvv0uKP_Atg/YVsscua1A0I/AAAAAAAAxDA/XOiY8nEpcgMferQQ64Do8BCbtGB5IKviQCPcBGAsYHg/w640-h414/IMG_20211004_085415890.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm am really loving this project. It is challenging in several ways: selection of fabrics for the spread, placement of fabrics, selection of threads and stitches to create interest. It really feels good to work with fabric again!</div><span style="background-color: #f9f9f9; color: #030303; font-family: Roboto, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; letter-spacing: 0.2px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Jan's Art and Musingshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16944210655467222522noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31590570.post-35288935442667959162021-09-29T15:57:00.004-07:002021-09-29T15:57:32.251-07:00It was a busy summer<p> I may not blog much, but I have done quite a lot of knitting over the summer! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mOcxHNc_aUw/YVTtwBih9KI/AAAAAAAAw74/m7wpTirl3NQFdTVOVq4SMVV8gdf92Vn6ACPcBGAsYHg/s3120/3%2Bcomfort%2Bscarves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2820" data-original-width="3120" height="578" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mOcxHNc_aUw/YVTtwBih9KI/AAAAAAAAw74/m7wpTirl3NQFdTVOVq4SMVV8gdf92Vn6ACPcBGAsYHg/w640-h578/3%2Bcomfort%2Bscarves.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Comfort scarves for <a href="https://www.handmadeespecially.org/" target="_blank">Handmade Especially For You</a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CS09O2yozQQ/YVTtwOJIa2I/AAAAAAAAw74/J6N87zM9xU0seEl11BFPZA5r0A5pOfX9wCPcBGAsYHg/s4160/IMG_20210919_110347964.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3120" data-original-width="4160" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CS09O2yozQQ/YVTtwOJIa2I/AAAAAAAAw74/J6N87zM9xU0seEl11BFPZA5r0A5pOfX9wCPcBGAsYHg/w640-h480/IMG_20210919_110347964.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">19 scarves and 1 hat for <a href="https://www.operationgratitude.com/" target="_blank">Operation Gratitude</a>. I started knitting a couple of years ago and cannot stop. Mostly scarves and blankets. Last year I began to knit for charity.</p><p><a href="https://www.operationgratitude.com/" target="_blank">Operation Gratitude </a>donates packages to deployed military. They like to include a hand made item with each package. Last year I donated 9 scarves for holiday packages. This year I participated in the RED Scarf Challenge. Remembering Everyone Deployed. I donated these:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7OSWVb__t8E/XzVfkCReIaI/AAAAAAAAmsc/PrgdU2uJFlkGO1vMP-1fDKPH8O5Um_DtQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/red%2Bscarf%2Bchallenge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="800" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7OSWVb__t8E/XzVfkCReIaI/AAAAAAAAmsc/PrgdU2uJFlkGO1vMP-1fDKPH8O5Um_DtQCLcBGAsYHQ/w600-h800/red%2Bscarf%2Bchallenge.jpg" width="600" /></a></div><p>I'm now donating to this organization: <a href="https://alicesembrace.org/" target="_blank">Alice's Embrace. </a><span style="background-color: #fffacc; font-family: brandon-grotesque; font-size: 18px; white-space: pre-wrap;">Alice's Embrace is a non-profit organization devoted to providing hand-knit and hand-crocheted prayer shawls and lap blankets to those suffering from Alzheimer's disease. </span>I've just finished the first two projects:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--T4p0Yzkzzc/XzViPOSvDmI/AAAAAAAAmtI/X1fag67069Uj9nyuWByes_pwsrr30dJNgCLcBGAsYHQ/s5152/IMG_0359.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3864" data-original-width="5152" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--T4p0Yzkzzc/XzViPOSvDmI/AAAAAAAAmtI/X1fag67069Uj9nyuWByes_pwsrr30dJNgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_0359.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qpSssZwPNXE/XzViPXSNoAI/AAAAAAAAmtM/oIrJa6UEFy0-v3VfztIiswvnNBO_qt_-ACLcBGAsYHQ/s5152/IMG_0361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5152" data-original-width="3864" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qpSssZwPNXE/XzViPXSNoAI/AAAAAAAAmtM/oIrJa6UEFy0-v3VfztIiswvnNBO_qt_-ACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/IMG_0361.JPG" /></a></div><p>The above is a prayer shawl. Of course I miss line dance classes, volunteering at the library, lunch with friends, and family gatherings. But I'm keeping myself occupied during this "safer at home" time. This morning, my "walk" and outing was to my atrium ...<br />

I used to go to Ojai to see Krishnamurti speak. Under the oak trees, he quietly spoke about life and death. Happy memories of those times. I think of him often as I walk among the trees in the early morning, when it is quiet except for birds and squirrels. </div>

In it, I try to capture moments, thoughts, snippets of my life. I think I will post some of the photos here that I'm including in the book, and perhaps some that aren't being printed. So here is the first:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">abandoned</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I love going to the beach after school starts and the crowds are gone. Last week I went down around 8am. There were walkers and surfers and me with my camera. There is something about lifeguard stations that have closed for the season that appeals to me. While they have been "abandoned", it is temporary.Jan's Art and Musingshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16944210655467222522noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31590570.post-21137871940669341542019-09-06T10:46:00.000-07:002019-09-06T10:46:19.501-07:00Yellow flowersMy project from the Linda Matthew's class Field of Flowers.<br />

It involves using a lot of textures to create visual interest, combining photos, adding a vignette, and a border. This is the class project ... next I will use my photos/images. </div>
